Did somebody say Internet Explorer is finally dead? Well, sort of. For some time, Microsoft gave hints Internet Explorer would be receiving the axe, but today it has been confirmed a name change and rebranding of the browser’s design is in the works. Microsoft’s marketing chief, Chris Capossela, disclosed Project Spartan as the code name for its upcoming browser.

“We’re now researching what the new brand, or the new name, for our browser should be in Windows 10,” Capossela stated. “We’ll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing.”

Internet Explorer will still continue to live on as the browser for Windows 10, for enterprise compatibility, in various versions of it. But Project Spartan is expected to be the new way to access the web using Windows 10 in the long run.

New Name = New Browser

Microsoft did some researching of involving “Microsoft” in the new name of the browser. The results were positive in the UK. It is also likely for Project Spartan to be involved in the new name. “Just by putting the Microsoft name in front of it, the delta for Chrome users on appeal is incredibly high,” Capossela stated.

For over a decade at this point Microsoft tried to rebrand Internet Explorer but failed each time because its “slow” image never changed. They tried to change things with a campaign mocking Internet Explorer 6.  It was entertaining but still left them with a negative image, which led Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (previous) Chief to leave the company in December 2014. This departure enlightened a new era to say goodbye to all things Internet Explorer.
